Take note
Handle with care! Geode cake decorating involves using sharp tools and edible rock candy, so be sure to use caution and keep any little ones away from the cutting and decorating process.
Start by baking a delicious cake in the flavor and shape of your choice. Let it cool completely before moving on to the geode decorating fun!
Using a sharp knife, carefully carve out a geode shape from the center of your cake. Don't worry about making it perfect, nature isn't always symmetrical!
Mix up some colored buttercream icing in shades of blue, purple, and white. Use a spatula to spread a generous layer of the colored icing around the inside of the geode cavity.
Time to bring in the bling! Place edible rock candy crystals of various sizes and colors into the buttercream icing, creating a sparkling geode effect.
For an extra touch of sparkle, brush the rock candy crystals with a little bit of edible luster dust. Watch your geode come to life with a beautiful shimmer!
Once you've decorated the geode cavity, carefully place the top of the cake back on. Frost the outside of the cake with a neutral-colored buttercream icing, creating a seamless look.
If you're feeling extra fancy, you can add a few more rock candy crystals and even some edible gold leaf as a finishing touch. Go all out and make it your own!
