Take note
Make sure to handle fire responsibly! Keep a fire extinguisher nearby, just in case. And as always, drink responsibly and enjoy in moderation.
To make a Smoky Old Fashioned, you'll need the following ingredients: 2 oz bourbon whiskey, 1 sugar cube, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, 1 large ice cube, 1 orange peel for garnish, and a small piece of smoking wood (such as cherry or oak).
Place the sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass and add the bitters. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently muddle the sugar and bitters together until the sugar is dissolved. Add the bourbon and stir well to combine.
Take the small piece of smoking wood and use a kitchen torch to gently ignite it until it starts to smolder. Hold the glass upside down over the smoldering wood, allowing the smoke to fill the glass. Carefully place the large ice cube in the glass, trapping the smoke inside. Let the glass sit for a minute to infuse the drink with the smoky flavor.
Finally, gently remove the large ice cube from the glass, being careful not to spill any of the delicious smoky goodness. Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by squeezing it and rubbing the rim of the glass. Drop the peel into the glass as a garnish. Now you're ready to sip and enjoy your Smoky Old Fashioned!
