Turn any birthday into a royal affair with our princess castle cake recipe! Edible glitter adds a touch of enchantment to this delectable creation.
Take note
Handle glitter responsibly and make sure it is safe for consumption. Always supervise children around hot ovens and sharp tools.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add butter, milk, eggs. Mix on low speed for 2 minutes, then increase to medium speed and beat for an additional 2 minutes until well combined and smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
Place the cake pans in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Carefully transfer the cake layers onto a wire rack to cool completely.
In a large bowl, beat softened butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat on low speed until combined. Add vanilla extract and milk, and continue beating until the frosting is light and fluffy. Divide the frosting into three bowls. Leave one bowl plain, dye one bowl pink, and dye the other bowl purple. Set aside. Now, cut out princess castle shapes from sturdy cardboard. These will serve as the templates for your castle towers.
Place one cake layer on a serving platter and frost the top with plain frosting. Place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake with a thin layer of plain frosting, also known as the crumb coat. This will help the final layers of frosting to adhere better. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Once chilled, frost the entire cake with the prepared pink frosting, creating a smooth finish. Use a spatula to create decorative peaks and swirls. Place the cardboard castle towers on top of the cake, securing them gently into the frosting.
Sprinkle edible glitter onto the frosted cake, adding a touch of magic and sparkle. Be generous but not excessive; we want the glitter to enhance the cake, not take over the whole kingdom! Add any additional decorations, such as edible flowers, pearl candies, or tiny princess figurines, to complete the enchanting scene. Stand back and admire your fabulous masterpiece!
