Add a touch of creativity to your pies with our guide on how to make leaf-shaped designs for your pie crusts. Impress everyone at your next gathering!
Take note
Be careful not to press the leaf shapes too hard into the pie crust, as it might result in uneven cooking.
First, roll out your prepared pie crust on a lightly floured surface until it's about 1/4 inch thick. Don't worry if it's not a perfect circle - we're going for a rustic look!
Using a leaf-shaped cookie cutter (or improvise with a sharp knife), carefully cut out leaf shapes from the rolled-out dough. Aim for around 12 to 16 leaves, depending on the size of your pie.
Once you have your leaf shapes ready, moisten the back of each leaf with a bit of water using a pastry brush or your finger. Gently press the leaves onto the edge of the pie crust, slightly overlapping them as you go. This will create a lovely leaf border.
To finish off the pie crust, use your fingers or a fork to crimp the edge. This will seal the leaves in place and give your pie a decorative edge. Feel free to get creative with your crimping pattern!
