Get creative in the kitchen with our Mozzarella and Tomato Sauce Filled Doughnut recipe! A unique twist on a classic treat that will leave you craving more.
Take note
Handling hot ingredients and using hot oil can be dangerous. Be sure to exercise caution and use appropriate safety measures throughout the cooking process.
In a saucepan, heat up your favorite tomato sauce on low heat. Once warmed, stir in some shredded mozzarella cheese until fully melted and well combined. Set the sauce aside for later.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and melted butter. Slowly add warm water, while continuously stirring, until the dough comes together. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release any air bubbles. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Use a round cookie cutter or a drinking glass to cut out doughnut shapes. Place a small spoonful of the mozzarella and tomato sauce mixture in the center of each doughnut circle. Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal. Repeat with remaining dough.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 375°F (190°C). Carefully lower each filled doughnut into the hot oil and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked doughnuts to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Once the doughnuts have cooled slightly, it's time to enjoy this mouthwatering creation! Serve them warm on their own or with a side of extra tomato sauce for dipping. The combination of savory cheese and sweet doughnut is sure to wow your taste buds.
