CAUTION: Making homemade Pop-Tarts may cause extreme craving and uncontrollable happiness. Side effects may include frequent kitchen dancing and excessive consumption of sugar.

1

Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Cut in 1 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add 1/4 cup of ice water, a little at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, wrap each portion in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

2

Roll and Cut the Dough

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Take one portion of the chilled dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Using a sharp knife or a pastry cutter, cut the dough into rectangles, about 3x4 inches in size. Repeat the process with the other portion of dough.

3

Fill 'Em Up

Place a spoonful of your favorite jam or filling in the center of half of the dough rectangles. Leave a small border around the edges. Brush the edges with beaten egg to help them seal. Gently place the remaining dough rectangles on top of the filled ones, pressing the edges together with a fork to seal.

4

Bake and Glaze

Transfer your Pop-Tarts onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake them in the preheated oven for about 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. While they're cooling, mix together 1 cup of powdered sugar, a splash of milk, and a drop of vanilla extract to make a simple glaze. Drizzle the glaze over your freshly baked Pop-Tarts and let it set for a few minutes.

5

Enjoy and Share

Now comes the hardest part: resisting the temptation to devour all the Pop-Tarts yourself! Share these homemade goodies with friends and family and bask in their admiration of your baking skills. You can store any leftovers in an airtight container for a few days, but let's be honest - they probably won't last that long.
