In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast. Give it a good mix to ensure everything is well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of warm milk, 1/4 cup of warm water, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while stirring. Keep mixing until a sticky dough forms.
Lightly flour a clean surface and transfer the dough onto it. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes soft and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour while kneading.
Place the dough back into the mixing bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size. This will give the buns a nice fluffy texture.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove any air bubbles. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round bun by gently tucking the edges underneath and forming a smooth top.
Place the shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving enough space between them to expand. Cover them with the kitchen towel again and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the buns have risen again, lightly brush them with an egg wash made by beating 1 egg with a splash of water. This will give them a beautiful golden color. Bake the buns for 15-18 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes. Once they are cool enough to handle, slice them open and fill them with your favorite gourmet hot dogs. Serve them up with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
