Freshly baked pita bread is just a knead away! Learn how to make fluffy pita rounds at home and take your taste buds to new heights.
Take note
Before we embark on this pita bread adventure, be cautious of hot ovens, sharp edges of baking equipment, and the temptation to eat all the pita as soon as it comes out of the oven!
In a large bowl, mix 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 teaspoons of instant yeast. Add 1 cup of warm water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix everything together until it forms a shaggy dough.
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball, then place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air pockets. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. On a floured surface, roll out each ball into a circle, about 7-8 inches in diameter.
Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C). If you have a baking stone or a baking sheet, place it in the oven during preheating. Carefully transfer the rolled-out pitas onto the preheated baking surface. Bake for 4-5 minutes, or until they puff up and turn golden brown.
