Discover a healthier twist to scotch eggs by avoiding deep frying. Our recipe will show you a delicious alternative cooking method!
Take note
Caution: Making scotch eggs without deep frying may result in a slightly different texture. But trust us, the flavor is still top notch!
Place the eggs in a saucepan and fill with cold water. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 7 minutes. This will give you perfectly cooked yolks and set whites.
Once the eggs are cooked, transfer them to a bowl filled with ice water. Let them cool for a couple of minutes, then gently tap each egg on a hard surface to crack the shell. Start peeling from the cracked area, using your fingertips or a spoon. Rinse the peeled eggs under cold water to remove any shell fragments.
Take some sausage meat or ground meat of your choice and divide it into portions. Flatten each portion with your palm into a thin patty. Place a peeled egg in the center of each patty and carefully wrap the meat around the egg, ensuring it is fully covered. Repeat for all the eggs.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the wrapped eggs onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the meat is cooked through and golden brown. You can also turn on the broiler for the last couple of minutes to get an extra crispy exterior!
