Experience the authentic Asian dining style with our recipe for molding edible chopsticks from rice. Enjoy your meal and eat your utensils too!
Take note
Caution: Do not attempt to eat regular chopsticks. They are not edible and may cause injury if consumed. Also, be careful when working with hot rice to avoid burns.
Start by cooking 1 cup of sushi rice according to the package instructions. We highly recommend using sushi rice for its sticky texture, perfect for molding chopsticks.
Once the rice is cooked, let it cool for about 10 minutes. It should be warm to the touch but not too hot to handle.
Take a small portion of the cooled rice and shape it into a long, thin cylinder. This will be the main body of your chopsticks. Repeat the process to create a second chopstick.
Using your fingertips or a small knife, create groove-like lines along the length of each chopstick to resemble the texture of real ones. Be creative and make them as realistic as possible!
Place the molded chopsticks on a plate or tray and let them set for about 30 minutes. This will help them firm up and hold their shape.
Once the chopsticks have set, they're ready to be used! Pair them with your favorite Asian-inspired dish and dig in. Don't forget to savor the moment of eating your utensils!
