The foundation of a perfect Sushi Tower begins with the rice. Unlock the secrets of sushi rice perfection with our foolproof tips and become a sushi rice master!
Take note
Handle sushi rice with care, as it can be quite delicate. Be cautious not to overcook or undercook the rice, as this will affect the texture and taste of your Sushi Tower.
Measure 2 cups of sushi rice and place it in a fine-mesh colander. Rinse the rice under cold water, gently scrubbing it with your hands. Rinse until the water runs clear, removing excess starch.
Transfer the rinsed rice to a rice cooker or a large bowl. Add 2 ½ cups of water and let the rice soak for 30 minutes. This step helps the rice absorb moisture evenly.
If using a rice cooker, follow the manufacturer's instructions. If cooking on the stovetop, bring the rice and water to a boil in a saucepan. Then, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed.
Once the rice is cooked, remove it from heat and let it rest, covered, for about 10 minutes. This allows the rice to fully steam and become fluffy.
In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup of rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gently heat the mixture in the microwave or on the stovetop until the sugar and salt dissolve. Drizzle the seasoned vinegar over the cooked rice and gently fold it in using a wooden spatula or rice paddle.
