Start by preparing the tart crust. Mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Cut in 1 cup of cold unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 4-6 tablespoons of ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator and let it sit for a few minutes to soften slightly. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a circle, about 12 inches in diameter. Gently transfer the rolled-out dough to a tart pan, pressing it into the bottom and sides. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.
Peel and core 4-5 apples. Slice them thinly and toss with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to prevent browning. Set aside.
In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once the sugar turns into a deep amber color and completely melts, add 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cut into small pieces. Stir until the butter is fully incorporated. Carefully pour in 1/2 cup of heavy cream while stirring continuously. Remove from heat and let the caramel cool slightly.
Spread a layer of caramel over the bottom of the tart crust. Arrange the sliced apples in a decorative pattern on top of the caramel. Drizzle more caramel over the apples. Bake the tart in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
Allow the tart to cool for a few minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. For an extra touch, you can garnish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Now, take a bite of this heavenly caramel apple tart and let the flavors dance on your taste buds!
