Take note
Make sure to adjust the quantities based on the number of servings you plan to make. Also, be cautious when handling sharp knives and hot ovens.
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's nice and hot when we're ready to bake the casserole.
Slice your bagels into bite-sized pieces. You'll need about 4-5 large bagels for this recipe. If you prefer a more intense bagel flavor, you can lightly toast them before slicing.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 8 ounces of cream cheese, 1 cup of sour cream, 1/4 cup of finely chopped dill, and a pinch of salt and black pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Grease a baking dish with a little butter or cooking spray. Place half of the sliced bagels in the bottom of the dish. Top with half of the cream cheese mixture, followed by 8-10 slices of lox and 1/4 cup of diced red onion. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
In a separate bowl, whisk together 5 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and a pinch of black pepper. Pour the egg mixture over the layered ingredients in the baking dish, making sure to coat everything evenly.
Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh dill or chopped chives if desired, and enjoy!
