Get the whole family involved this Thanksgiving with our Pumpkin Pie Art recipe. It's a delicious activity that will create lasting memories.
Take note
Be careful when handling sharp knives and hot ovens. Adult supervision is recommended for younger children.
Start by gathering all the materials you'll need for this artistic adventure. Here's your checklist: one refrigerated pie crust, a medium-sized pumpkin, a small sharp knife, a spoon, a pastry brush, and a selection of colorful food coloring.
Using the small sharp knife, carefully carve a face on one side of the pumpkin. This will be your canvas for your edible artwork!
Remove the top of the pumpkin and scoop out all the seeds and stringy bits. Don't toss them away just yet, we have other plans for those crunchy pumpkin seeds!
Roll out the refrigerated pie crust on a lightly floured surface. Cut out shapes like leaves, stars, or even turkey feathers using cookie cutters or by freehand, if you're feeling adventurous.
Using a pastry brush, apply a little bit of water to the back of each cutout shape, then gently press them onto the pumpkin. Arrange the pie crust pieces into a beautiful design, covering as much of the pumpkin as you like.
Place the pumpkin in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 40-45 minutes, or until the pie crust turns golden brown. Keep an eye on it - you don't want to overcook the masterpiece!
Once your Pumpkin Pie Art has cooled, slice it up just like you would a regular pie and enjoy the deliciousness of your edible artwork! Be sure to take lots of photos before digging in - you'll want to capture this masterpiece!
