Experience the best of both worlds with our delicious 'Cronut' recipe! A flaky croissant combined with a fluffy donut, it's a heavenly treat!
Take note
Keep in mind that these Cronuts are so delectable that you might not want to share them with anyone. However, it's highly recommended to resist the temptation to devour them all in one sitting - your waistline will thank you later!
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of instant yeast, and a pinch of salt. Add 1/2 cup of warm milk, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, and 1 beaten egg. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size. You can use this time to catch up on your favorite TV show or practice your dance moves.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out circles. Then, use a smaller round cookie cutter to cut out the center of each circle, creating the classic donut shape. Don't throw away the donut holes - they make for tasty bite-sized treats!
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Gently place a few Cronuts into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until they turn golden brown. Remember to keep an eye on them - no one likes a burnt Cronut!
Remove the fried Cronuts from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate. While they're still warm, roll them in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar for that extra touch of sweetness. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also try coating them in powdered sugar or a chocolate glaze. Yum!
