In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup of milk, 1 beaten egg, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Mix well.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, shaping them into donut shapes with the back of the spoon.
