Start your sushi journey here! Follow our step-by-step guide to make a delicious Temaki Hand Roll at home. Perfect for beginners.
Take note
Before we dive into the guide, remember to wash your hands thoroughly and use fresh ingredients. Also, be careful while cutting ingredients to avoid any accidents.
Start by rinsing 1 cup of sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Then, combine the rice with 1.2 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Once done, let it rest for 10 minutes.
While the rice is resting, cut your favorite fillings into thin strips. You can use fresh fish like salmon or tuna, avocado, cucumber, and even some crunchy tempura flakes. Get creative and try different combinations!
Place a sheet of nori (seaweed) on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you. Moisten your hands with water to prevent sticking, grab a handful of rice, and spread it evenly over two-thirds of the nori, leaving the top third uncovered.
Place a few strips of your chosen fillings on top of the rice. Be careful not to overfill, as it might cause difficulties when rolling. Remember, a happy roll is a manageable roll!
Starting from the bottom corner, roll the nori tightly over the fillings. Use a little water to moisten the top edge of the nori and seal it up. Congratulations, you just made your first Temaki Hand Roll!
