Indulge your taste buds with our homemade Baklava recipe. Layers of flaky pastry, chopped nuts, and sweet syrup - a Mediterranean delight!
Take note
Be careful when working with hot sugar syrup to avoid burns. Additionally, be cautious when handling the sharp edges of the pastry.
In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
Take 1 cup of chopped nuts (we recommend a mix of walnuts, almonds, and pistachios) and mix them with 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a bowl. Set aside.
Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process with 5 more sheets, stacking them on top of each other. Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut filling evenly over the pastry. Repeat the process of layering 6 more sheets of phyllo pastry, brushing each with melted butter and adding the nut filling. Keep repeating this process until you run out of nut filling or phyllo pastry sheets.
Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the layered pastry into diamond or square shapes. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Once the Baklava comes out of the oven, immediately pour the cooled sugar syrup over the hot pastry. Allow it to sit for at least 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors meld together.
Serve the Baklava as a delicious Mediterranean dessert. Don't forget to garnish with some crushed pistachios for an extra touch of elegance. Grab a piece and savor each flaky bite!
