Let your inner royalty shine with our 'Frog Prince Frosted Fancies' recipe. These whimsical treats are fit for a fairy tale celebration!
Take note
Please note that this recipe involves baking and handling hot sugar syrup. Be sure to exercise caution and keep a close eye on the stove while preparing the syrup. Also, be careful when handling the hot syrup as it can cause burns.
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and greasing a baking pan. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ cups of sugar, ½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk, ½ cup of vegetable oil, 2 large eggs, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
Pour the cake batter into the greased baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
While the cake is cooling, prepare the sugar syrup. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a simmer. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool.
Once the cake has cooled, use a crown-shaped cookie cutter to cut out individual cake shapes. You can also use a knife to carefully cut out crown shapes if you don't have a cookie cutter. Place the cut-out cake shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Now it's time to frost and decorate your Frog Prince Frosted Fancies! Start by spreading a thin layer of green buttercream frosting on top of each cake shape. To make the frosting, beat 1 cup of softened butter, 4 cups of powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons of milk, and a few drops of green food coloring in a mixing bowl until smooth and creamy. Once frosted, use fondant or icing to create the details of a frog prince, such as eyes, a crown, and a smile. Get creative and have fun!
