Take note
Be careful when working with hot ingredients and sharp knives. Keep an eye on the roll while it's baking to prevent it from burning.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix well.
In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of warm milk, 1/4 cup of melted butter, and 1 large egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour.
Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 cup of softened butter until well combined.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
Evenly spread the prepared filling over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
Starting with one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Trim off the uneven edges.
Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled dough into 10-12 equal slices. Place the slices, cut side up, in a greased round baking pan.
Cover the baking pan with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the dough has risen again, bake the giant cinnamon roll for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove the baking pan from the oven and let the giant cinnamon roll cool for a few minutes. Drizzle with cream cheese glaze or dust with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and enjoy your homemade giant cinnamon roll!
