Caution: This dish is known to induce smiles and happy tummies. Proceed with caution if you don't want your day to start off amazing.
Start by washing and cutting your favorite berries. You can use strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or a combination of them all. Make sure to remove any stems or leaves.
In a mixing bowl, crack open the eggs and whisk them together with milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. This will be the base for our delicious French toast.
Grab a baking dish and generously butter it. Place slices of bread in the dish, forming a single layer. Pour half of the French toast base over the bread, making sure each slice is soaked. Then, layer the prepared berries on top. Repeat the bread and berry layers once more, and pour the remaining French toast base over the top.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate it overnight. This will allow the French toast to soak up all the flavors and the berries to release their sweet juiciness. If you can't wait, you can let it rest for at least 4 hours.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the foil from the baking dish and bake for 35-40 minutes, until the French toast is golden brown and the berries are bubbly. Once it's done, take a moment to marvel at the deliciousness before diving in with a fork. Serve the Berrylicious French Toast Bake with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup for an extra touch of sweetness.
