Infuse your Mochi Donuts with the vibrant flavors of matcha! Learn how to create these green tea delights and satisfy your sweet tooth with a twist.
Take note
Please note that this guide assumes you have basic baking knowledge. Also, be cautious when working with hot oil to fry the donuts. Safety first, folks!
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of sweet rice flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add 3/4 cup of water while stirring continuously. Once the mixture is smooth, microwave it on high for 2 minutes. Take it out, stir well, and microwave again for another 2 minutes. Repeat this process one more time. This will create the sticky Mochi dough!
Take the Mochi dough and divide it into two portions. In one portion, add 1 tablespoon of culinary grade matcha powder and knead until the matcha is fully incorporated. If the dough is too sticky, use a little bit of sweet rice flour to dust your hands. Keep kneading until the matcha is evenly distributed.
Take a small portion of the matcha Mochi dough and roll it into a ball. Flatten the ball slightly, making it thicker in the center and thinner at the edges, to create a donut shape. Repeat this step for the remaining dough. Set the shaped donuts aside on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Heat oil in a deep pan or pot to about 350°F (175°C). Gently lower a few Mochi donuts into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Avoid overcrowding the pan. Once cooked, remove the donuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Sprinkle the freshly fried matcha Mochi Donuts with powdered sugar while they're still warm. This will give them a delightful touch of sweetness and add a nice contrast to the vibrant green color. Don't be afraid to be generous with the powdered sugar!
Allow the matcha Mochi Donuts to cool slightly before indulging in their chewy and delectable goodness. These treats are best enjoyed fresh, but they can also be stored in an airtight container for a day or two. Whether you savor them on your own or share with others, these matcha-infused delights are sure to impress.
