Take note
Please note that this recipe requires some advanced baking skills and may take a bit of time, but the end result will be totally worth it!

1

Prepare the cronut dough

In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ¼ cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of instant yeast, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Mix well. In a separate bowl, whisk together ½ cup of warm milk, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, and 1 beaten egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

2

Let the dough rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size. This will give the cronut cake its light and fluffy texture.

3

Shape the cronuts

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about ½ inch. Use a round cutter to cut out circles, then use a smaller cutter to cut out a hole in the center of each circle. You now have cronut-shaped doughnuts!

4

Fry the cronuts

Heat a pot of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop a few cronuts into the hot oil and fry for about 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove the cronuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

5

Glaze the cronuts

In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth. Dip each cronut into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. You can also sprinkle some colored sugar or sprinkles on top for added flair!

6

Assemble the cronut cake

Now it's time to stack the cronuts! Take a serving plate and place a cronut on it. Spread a layer of your favorite filling, such as pastry cream or fruit jam, on top. Repeat the process, stacking cronuts and filling until you have a beautiful cronut cake.
