Take note
Be careful when handling hot steam, and always use oven mitts or a kitchen towel to protect your hands. Also, these buns are so delicious, they might mysteriously disappear before you can serve them to your guests!

1

Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of instant yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix well to distribute the ingredients evenly.

2

Add the Wet Ingredients

Slowly pour in 3/4 cup of warm water and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into the dry mixture. Stir the dough with a spoon until it starts to come together.

3

Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Start kneading it with your hands until it becomes smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes of kneading should do the trick.

4

Let it Rise

Place the dough back into the mixing bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

5

Divide and Shape

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release any air bubbles. Then, divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Take one portion and flatten it into a small circle with your hands.

6

Add the Filling

Spoon your desired vegan filling onto the center of the flattened dough. It could be anything from seasoned tofu, sautéed vegetables, or even vegan BBQ pulled jackfruit!

7

Seal and Steam

Gather the edges of the dough circle and pinch them together, sealing the filling inside. Place each filled bun on a small piece of parchment paper, and arrange them in a steamer basket. Steam the buns over high heat for 15-20 minutes.

8

Serve and Enjoy

Now comes the moment of truth - remove the steamed buns from the steamer basket, let them cool slightly, and enjoy them while they're still warm and steamy! Dip them in your favorite sauce or enjoy them plain. Yum!
