Then, knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a clean bowl, cover it with a damp kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size. This is the perfect opportunity to practice your patience skills or get a head start on a captivating TV show.
Once the dough has doubled in size, gently punch it down to release any air bubbles. Roll it out on a floured surface to about ½ inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or a round cookie cutter to shape your donuts. For the classic donut shape, use a smaller round cutter to create the donut holes.
